Leo walked into the woods, chasing a breeze. He heard a whisper. Stop! it said. Leo froze. I’m here to help, the ghost said. You’re safe. Leo looked up, the leaves moving. The ghost was a little boy in a green tunic, holding a leaf. Your mom’s house is behind you, he told. You’ll be safe. Leo followed. They played hide-and-seek, the ghost being the player. Once, Leo tripped, laughing. The ghost caught him, giving a leaf. Your friends are in the woods, the ghost said. Play with them. Leo felt warm, his heart quickened. You’re a good friend, he whispered. The ghost nodded. He vanished when Leo turned. Leo turned back, safe. He waved goodbye, the ghost’s smile warm. You’re safe, he said. Leo felt better, ready for school. He knew the whisper was just a friendly ghost. He felt the wind brush him. Leo ran home, the ghost’s words echoing. You’re a good kid, he said. Be brave. Leo smiled, knowing the ghost was there, watching.
